The Christ Church Community Centre was opened on 24th August 2003 by The Hon. John Thwaites MP, Deputy Premier and Member for Albert Park. The project was initiated by the Parish of Christ Church St Kilda, and undertaken by a new independent body Christ Church Mission Inc which negotiated lease arrangements to construct and operate the building on land owned by the Trust Corporation of the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne. Funding came from a number of generous benefactors: the Victorian Government Community Support Fund, the Percy Baxter Charitable Trust, the Helen McPherson Smith Foundation, the John T Reid Victorian Charitable Trust, the Buckland Foundation, and others.
Christ Church Community Centre provides a valuable amenity for the St Kilda region. The Centre develops and runs its own programs to attract local residents, with an emphasis on engaging people who are socially isolated for a variety of reasons. The venue is also used for regular self help groups such as Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous.
